History

|
Rachel Sims Baptist Mission began as a backyard Bible club in 1910. It was started by a young lady who was attending Baptist Bible Institute which is now New Orleans Theological Seminary. She saw a need in Clay Square Park for a work with all the children who played in the park. It was out of her dreams and desires for service that meeting times were set up and others were involved. The North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention also recognized this need and a house was bought across from the park, and Clay Square Mission was begun in 1919.
First Baptist Church of New Orleans played an important part in these early developmental years with their prayers, abilities, and financial support.
Upon the death of Rachel Sims, who was the young lady with the dream and the first director of the mission, the mission was renamed Rachel Sims Memorial Mission. In 1949, the current building was built and today the name reads Rachel Sims Baptist Mission.
The ministry today attempts to meet the needs of the people in the Irish Channel of New Orleans with many outreach programs, as we minister in the World City.
Making the Gospel believable! Becoming all things to all men that they might come to know Him! Talking the talk and walking the walk!!
Rachel Sims Baptist Mission is sharing the gospel in our world until Jesus returns! |
